INTRO

VERSE 1
Jesus our lord Jesus before he went away
Commissioned his disciples to go and teach all nations
This commission was extensive
It was an obligation for the disciples to disperse themselves
To every nation and every corner of the inhabited globe
To preach to every creature
Without exception, without limitation

Be a candle in the dark
Lord I want to be a candle in the dark
A light to the world
Be a witness for my lord
Please send me into this dark world
Please use me somehow, oh lord
As a candle in the dark

VERSE 2
Many attempts at the great commission
Have been made by many Christians
Since the days of the first apostles
But I regret to report that the work of God
Has not been taken seriously
Nor has it been been prosecuted
With the zeal and perseverance
Of the early Christian church
Indeed they were candles in the dark

VERSE 3
Many people say the commission is completed
By the ministry of the early apostles
They say, we have many souls In our own countries
If God intends the salvation of the world
He will somehow bring the gospel to them
Or bring them to the gospel
Today, most Christians, sit at ease
Have no concern for lost sinners
They don’t want to be candles in the dark

VERSE 4
For the consideration of you who sit at ease
I offer these observations
If the whole body of Christians
Entered heartily into the great commission
And loved the souls of their fellow creatures
More than they loved themselves
And more than they love their own lives yeah
They could become candles in the dark
They could become saviours of this world
